The Information Pavilion by the Art Museum

The Information Pavilion situated behind the Art Museum in the Monastery of Our Lady is another excellent location for visitors wanting to find out more about Magdeburg, the City of Otto. The pavilion not only contains a multitude of brochures and flyers containing information for tourists, but also provides an insight into the history of Magdeburg, the current capital city of the German Land of Saxony-Anhalt, as a major stronghold and fortress.

Info-Pavillio © www.AndreasLander.deThe main attraction in the Information Pavilion is a new 1:1000-scale model of the city centre, which was built by Gerd Reinicke from the model-making company “Design- und Architekturmodellbau” from Magdeburg and is around three and a half metres long and two metres wide. The model depicts the city centre in its current state, stretching from the university in the north of the city right down to the Klosterbergegarten park in the south. From east to west, the model features the area extending from the Alte Elbe river across to Magdeburg Central Station. The model also boasts a special highlight, namely the fact that 40 sights and attractions or important destinations are fitted with special LEDs that light up and enable guests to locate significant buildings or landmarks even quicker at the push of a button.
